Late Summer Recap

Harness

Glidemaster returns this Saturday at Mohawk in the SImcoe for three year old trotters. A remath with Blue Mac Lad awaits.

Chocolatier is making his case as top three year old in America. He crushed his foes in the American National at Balmoral, and has now adding the World Trotting Derby to his resume. Although secong in the Hambo, he may prove to be number 1 at years end.

Artisitic Fella won a qualifier by 66 lenghts (almost 1/8th of a mile) in 1:52 at the Red Mile

Holborn Hanover lit up the teletimer again, winning in 1:47.4 in the American National at Balmoral, defeating Lis Mara by 1 length.

Sand Vic crushed his foes in the American National at Balmoral, including a weak Vivid Photo in 1:51.4. He won his Maple Lead Trot Elim by 5 over Peaceful Way, and is the fave this Saturday.

Total Truth took the Cane Pace at Freehold by 1 length over Took Hanover in 1:51.3.

Passionate Glide qualified in 1:57 at Red Mile and drew the rail there in the Moni Maker on Sunday.

This Sunday marks the opening of Chester Downs. It feautures a $12,000 Open featuring Blissed Out. Also, Ambootia headlines qualifying action at Chester on Friday.

The Summer is complete. Here is a recap of the late summer action and a preview of what is forthcoming this fall.

Thoroughbred

In the world of thoroughbred racing, the Maktoum family of Dubai has taken centerstage. It is possible that they could have at least 10 entrants in the Breeders Cup.

1. Electrocutionist - The Dubai World Cup winner is pointing towards a run in the Classic.
2. Bernardini - The three year old of the world will be in the Classic.
3. Invasor - Dual Grade 1 winner is tops in the East. Classic for him. (*Note he was beaten ten lengths by Discreet
Cat
at a 1 1/4 Miles. How sick is that?)
4-7. Iffrraj/Librettist/Court Masterpiece/Ashkal Way - All possible for the Mile. Ashkal Way last won in
extraordinary fashion at the Spa and headlines this group.
8. Dubai Escapade - Spint is her target. Last seen romping at the Spa.
9. Henny Hughes - Top sprinting three year old will be in the Sprint.
10. Balleto - Top 2 yr. old filly in '04 is heading to the Distaff.

Who knows about their European two year old stock. But the Maktoums have won the Juvenile Fillies (Tempera in '01). Expect them to be representing by some two year olds two.

Premium Tap won a very slow Saratoga renewal of the Woodward (1:50). Flower Alley showed he is not up to the hype, and Funny Cide is simply a Grade 3 Animal.

Pomeroy stamped himself a contender in the Sprint, winning big in the Forego.

Circle Quary closed into extrememely fast fractions in the Hopeful, but this son of Thunder Gulch is bred to go all day.

Point Ashley and Horse Greeley stepped into the 2 yr. old spotlight out west with big wins at Del Mar.

Look for some nice racing action at Belmont this week, including a showdown between Showing Up and Cacique in the Man O' War.

Saturday - Ouija Board, the best female turf horse sine Royal Heroine takes on her rival Alexander Goldrun in a rematch in the Irish Champion Stakes. Dylan Thomas and Ace make this an all star field.

America's Weekend at the Races

Labor Day weekend often unveils several dynamic performance in many top-quality graded stakes across the country. Philadelphia Park often adds to action, but due to construction this years version of the Pennsylvania Derby has been cancelled. That being said Saratoga finds itself in the spotlight once again.

Saturday:
- Nick Zito debuts a pair of two-year olds owned by Tracy Farmer in the 2nd.
- The Forego
- The Return of Commentator, one of the leading handicap horses in the country from 2005.
- Greeley's Galaxy, the highly touted three year old from 2005, winner of the Illinois Derby.
- Spanish Chestnut, prominent three year old from 2005.
- Mass Media, one of the most prominent sprinting stakes runners in the country for years.
- Pomeroy - Another top calibur sprinter for the past two seasons.
- Silver Wagon - Breeders Cup Sprint/ Met Mile winner. One of the top horses in America.
- Woodward
- Suave - top handicap horse
- Sun King - Top 3 year old in '05. 2nd in both Met Mile and Whitney.
- Flower Alley - top three year old of the fall last year. Needs big effort to move forward.
- Second of June - Top three year old in '04 til injured. On the comeback trail.
- Andromeda's Hero - One of Zito's 5 in Ky. Derby of '05.
- Funny Cide - Dual Classic Winner of '03. Finally managed properly.
