The Meadowlands Racing Insider hosted by Mike Curci has a weekly contest at the Meadowlands. To enter, just pick a horse on the Saturday night card at the BigM, and send it in. The individual whose choice returned the highest $2 mutual win payoff, wins a $25 betting voucher at the Meadowlands.

This week, my father, Sandy Zoccali won the contest, and he did not look at the program. In fact he had his pick a week before the race. The previous Saturday a horse named Andreoli Hanover received an awful trip, rushing up the inside and being cut off, forcing him to take up sharply. Immediately after the race, my dad said that's my pick for next week.

Andreoli Hanover wired the field in the finale at 26-1. On paper he was virtually unplayable. But if anyone saw his last race, he was more than bettable. So, as a lesson, take a look at races while handicapping. The program doesn't capture all the evidence.
